The Road to Monterey 60” x 60” | Recycled Computer Key Mosaic

Few automobiles have become cultural icons quite like the 1967 Volkswagen Beetle. More than a means of transportation, the Beetle came to symbolize individuality, optimism, and the freedom of the open road. It became inseparable from a generation whose music, art, and ideals reshaped American culture.
Created from thousands of recycled computer keys, The Road to Monterey bridges two revolutions: the mechanical age that inspired adventure and the digital age that followed. The title pays homage to the landmark 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a defining moment in music history that introduced many Americans to the Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Who, showcased Janis Joplin’s breakthrough performance, and became one of the defining events of the Summer of Love.
Hidden throughout the mosaic is a custom word search featuring the musicians, festivals, venues, and cultural landmarks that defined the era—from Haight-Ashbury and the Fillmore to Woodstock, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Monterey itself.
Each discovery invites the viewer to look a little longer, transforming the artwork from a single image into an interactive journey through one of the most influential cultural movements of the twentieth century. From across the room, it is an unmistakable classic automobile. Up close, it reveals thousands of individual computer keys, each one carrying its own history while contributing to a larger story.
Like the era it celebrates, The Road to Monterey reminds us that the journey is often just as meaningful as the destination.

There is a word search spelled out with thw keys hidden throughout the artwork.
