ARTIST STATEMENT (LIBERTY ONCE LOST IS LOST FOREVER)
This mosaic reimagines the American flag through the language of modern life.
Thousands of reclaimed computer keyboard keys—objects once used to communicate ideas, opinions, and beliefs—are assembled into a timeless national symbol.
Above, the flag stands resolute; below, the word LIBERTY anchors the work, rendered with deliberate clarity and space, demanding to be read, not glanced over.
By using discarded technology, the piece bridges generations, reminding us that freedom is not static— it must be continually expressed, defended, and passed forward.
Each key represents an individual voice; together, they form a unified whole, echoing the founding principle that liberty survives only through collective responsibility.
This work is both homage and warning. Liberty is inherited, but it is never guaranteed.
Once lost, it is not easily regained.
There is a word search spelled out with the keys hidden throughout the artwork.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
